You fundamentaly do not understand the character and her history.

Her very 1st 1/3rd of her life as Harley is wrapped up with the Joker. There's no breaking her from that history in publishing and media. For her first 15 or so years she was Joker's girlfriend/ 1st level henchwoman. Then she broke away from him about 6 years ago (new 52) and has become her own character that not only acknowledges her ties to him but understands she can't be a part of his life anymore. When the character broke away from Joker she became EVEN more popular. In fact she now rivals Deadpool in terms of comic popularity.

Now what has been done with the character and I fully expect to see in the movie is that at the end or at some point she will reject him and move the character on and become the character you want...
