1) Collect Pidgys. They are small and take very few candy to evolve
2) Colelct Pidgy candy. Mostly by collecting more Pidgys and Transferring some of them
3) Collect Lucky Eggs. These are not incubation eggs. You get your first one at Level 9. A lucky egg doubles your XP for 30 minutes

When you activate your Egg, then you evolve all the pidgys you can in that 30 minutes. Because it is 500 XP for each evolution, the Egg gets you x2 and you can get a LOT of XP depending on how many Pidgy's you can stock up on and have the candy to evolve
