No. They just get knocked out and you use a Revive to wake them up and Potions to heal -- nm

Some Pokemon are better than others vs another Pokemon. And you can dodge side to side to try and avoid attacks

Yeah there are some obvious matchups (grass weak to fire, etc) but I don't really know what they all are to know the best matchups -- nm

There's really two "games" in it. One is just collection. The other is the gym battle part.
