i looked at a map of the area I work at, i bet its a lot like NYC. there are 32 stops within 5 blocks, and 4 gyms.

Yeah, downtown areas are fantastic for the game while residential areas are dead zones.

i work in the "Plaza" area of kc, which is really mostly just a large open air shopping area with fountains and statues so it would great for the game -- nm

Hopefully they'll figure out a way to add more stops and gyms to the suburbs and more rural areas. I'm also reading there aren't many Pokemon for rural -- (edited)
