You know what, I should retract some of this. There's actually a much better way to think of this. The 2 categories of texts shouldn't be fiction and -- (edited)

nonfiction. It should be nonfiction and literature. You're right, nonfiction is based on truth.
Literature are the genres of novel, short story, essay, drama, poetry, letters, journals, and speeches. (I may be missing some.)
What libraries do is put all literature in the Dewey Decimal System and shelve it with nonfiction (there are numbers for all of it, even fiction) *except* for novels and short stories, which they call the fiction section. And put the other genres in the nonfiction section with the actual nonfiction (which really should be called the Dewey section).
