Joe Maddon inexplicably had pitcher Travis Wood playing LF.

Seattle hit a ball into the ivy, and he caught it.
Joe Maddon is next level brilliant/lucky as a baseball man.

I'm guessing he had him out there to bring in to face a lefty (and then switch back with the other pitcher). He's done that before. -- nm

That's what I expected but the pitcher handled the entire inning while Wood stayed in Left. -- nm

Maybe in case someone got on base? I don't know. But in Maddon we trust. -- nm

It's entirely possible. Wood is a good athlete. He pinch runs and pinch hits from time to time. He could easily just be letting him have some fun. -- nm
