Ah, then I'd say (a) that's not fair and (b) plenty of stuff in sport isn't fair, so get over it.

Being on the US team means an athlete has access to world class coaching, training, management, support, technology, funding, sponsorship - all things that are designed to give US athletes an edge in competition.
The same athlete born in a country without a strong gymnastics program doesn't have that - at least not to the same level of quality. Several countries have well-funded systems designed to produce Olympic athletes (China, Australia, the U.K., etc), and others don't. That's not fair either, but that's the way the world works.
It would be nice if the Olympics was purely about individual merit, but it isn't and never really has been.
