Could Carl Lewis have won that many? Somewhere, I think during London, there was an article comparing them.

Swimming is one of the few sports where this us even possible and one of the few other athletes outside of swimming that might compare is Jackie Joyner Kersee, who was a top caliber heptathlete along with tops in several of the separate specialties that made it up and a relay or two. Carl Lewis was close.
