yes, ~5-10% of people are carriers (it's called colonization); and, for the vast majority, it's never a thing. this is vs. actual infection.

I tested positive for it* when I was undergoing wound care and still had fixation (metal frame dealio) going into my leg which gave possible bad exposure around where each pin was inserted. I was treated as if I was infected, but it was possible I wasn't actually infected.
my mom and my oldest sister, though, had rounds of actual infection in the past.
*there's a much higher colonization percentage for rehab/nursing facilities and at least some hospitals than for the population in general; so, with my going between both, it wasn't a surprise.
