The problem is that you can then make phantom claims whenever you want and if you called on the carpet, you simply claim sources to get out of it.

The article actually mentions that he initially avoided saying whether he was blindly speculating.
He's abusing a system. It's his entire shtick. As a journalist, that bothers me.
