I don't know Olympics well, but I woulda lost a ton of money on Great Britain having more medals than Australia at this point

20 years ago in Atlanta they got just 1 medal. That's when the athletics started getting govt funding. -- nm

GB pays subsidies to their top athletes so they don't have to get other jobs. I don't know if Australia does the same -- nm

GB put a ton of money leading up to the 2012 Games and won a lot of medals, which then meant that more young people were inspired to become athletes,
