I thought it was the release of the bad Ghostbusters trailer that really muddied the waters of what type of hate was being directed at the film.

The time between then and the release of the film gave the misogynists time to really vent their hatred, but a lot of others just didn't like the trailer and didn't have high hopes for the film.
