i don't tell her anything.
but we had no contact whatsoever for like 25 years before i attempted to reconcile.
long story short, it didn't take (for me). so we don't talk.
as you say, i just don't feel like opening doors that i know aren't going to lead anywhere productive.
if you think it could lead to bigger/better relations, i would tell him. but, for yourself, only if you want it to lead to that.
if you want a rapproachment, telling him could be a good first step
