friend of mine got clocked in the shin during a softball game. Nice big bruise and then had a welt that sounds like what you're describing.
Now - he had this thing for a long time - months as it were.
Couple weeks ago, he knocked that welt on the faucet in the shower and broke it open...he bled so much that he actually passed out in the tub. His father just happened to come by that morning with donuts and found him lying in the shower. If not for his dad coming by, he probably would have bled out in the shower.
Now - some side remarks - this is a REALLY big guy...i'm talking 350-375 and he actually could still see the welt on his leg. Why he didn't see a doc about it when it had been there for so long, I have no idea.
Anyway - probably not the same thing at all...but I wouldn't go too terribly long before having it checked out if it doesn't go away.
