Tree trimming question: Has anyone here had experience trimming a shrub into a tree?

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my yard and I'm starting now because I know some things are better to do in the Fall. I have a place where I want a tree.

I want a smaller ornamental tree there. Several of the trees I've found that work in my zone, get to my desired height, etc. are actually large bushes/shrubs that you have prune to shape into a tree form. I've looked at things online, but in the real world how complicated is it to do it well so the end result looks good?

It's not very complicated, but you have to have an eye for it. Also, depending on the bush (and it's growth rate), it may take some diligence to keep - decline Aug 29, 07:15
