In response to "Question: How can a generic version of a product be different from the name brand if it's made by the same company? Epi-pen. -- nm" by Meg

I have no idea. And I'm still a patent lawyer.

Normally, I'd say that the generic version included a generic version of the drug, something along the lines of a Viagra®‎ pill versus a sildenafil citrate pill. Viagra®‎ is just the brand name for "sildenafil citrate". They're the same drug, just a brand name versus a generic.

But the drug here is epinephrine. It's the same drug in the EpiPen® auto-injector and the generic auto-injector.

So ... I don't really understand why Mylan is coming out with a "generic"EpiPen®
