The funny part is that lobbying is considered absolutely normal in the legislative process. Special interests donate directly to candidates to curry

favors and influence votes nobody bats an eye. But somehow here, where there is no direct link, but a contextual appearance of the possibility of conflict, but no evidence of it impacting policy, people are all up in arms.
