So marginal points in a position on a starting roster matter more than marginal points between a position on the starting roster and the bench?

I guess I'm either too stupid or blind to figure this out then.
FantasyPros has Gostkowski projected at 138.8 points.
Assuming every Astronauts team drafts one K, the marginal difference between him and the 12th ranked kicker -- Cody Parky at 118.4 -- is 20.4 points. Or 1.7 points per game on average.
If every Astronauts manager waited until the 15th Round to draft a kicker, and we all drafted in order starting with the kicker expected to score the most points, JFields would end up with Gostkowski and Spawn would end up with Graham Gano (126.0 points expected). That would be a marginal difference of 1.1 points per game.
So why would I still not want to draft Gostkowski before Steve Smith?
