I think a lot of people just don't understand the way scientists think.

the vast vast majority are open to exploring anything (especially if there's grant money involved!). The idea that a lot of the more strident anti-vaxers put out there, that the scientists aren't doing their job properly, just gets a lot of their backs up against the wall.
