it's the mistake that Obama made; the press is the most powerful entity in DC. And they want to like Democrats; not giving them access is just giving them reason to not kiss your ass.
Giving them access is an easy way to manipulate coverage to your advantage. And now that Trump's actually not slitting his own throat daily, it's time to caress the press' balls and get a few press cycles about you that aren't email-gate related.
