The short version: V2 will not need to have a kidney removed.
The longer version: a few weeks back, I posted that V2 was being eval'ed for appendicitis. It wasn't, but in doing the ultrasound to examine the appendix they noted that his right kidney was underdeveloped.
Fast-forward, and over the last two weeks he's been undergoing testing that eventually showed he was born with a previously undiagnosed genetic deformation of his right kidney that lowers its general function and leaves him susceptible to infection. Maddeningly, this was noted four years ago in a different ultrasound but no one bothered to tell us (nbd).
So the last of the testing was yesterday and surprisingly the kidney function is about 50% of what it should be--which is actually good, compared to what it was expected to be. If it had been as expected, they'd be taking his kidney out next week.
So, a rough week with a relatively happy ending.
