The thing that no one in that world seems to understand is that, the larger an area you claim, the larger area you have to monitor and protect.

I always used to wonder why Alexandria was such a massive compound for so few people. It never dawned on them to downsize. I mean, I know the writers baked in the idea that they were especially dumb but there's no way they'd have lasted that long.
