Well live televised. I believe the first time they performed that live was at Coachella

I'm pretty sure that there were way more people in and around the Sahara tent than could've possibly been at the whatever venue they did the VMA's at.
So granted they had their fans but for that performance, it was only him. So even less places to hide...
