and the gloom and doom scenarios won't transpire. But as reality sets in over the longer term, it's not a great picture.

In the Brexit case, the UK is going to have to give up some level of sovereignty to remain in the single market, it's not going to find new trade deals as easy to negotiate as the pro-Brexit people promised, companies are going to hold off investing in the UK until the picture is clearer, companies located solely in the UK for the access it gives to the EU (eg financial companies) are going to leave, etc. And that's just on the economic side.
