Beyond programming, the thing with Nest now is the other integrations. With Automatic it will pre-cool the house down before I get home

and also knows when we leave. Add the integrations with Echo/Dot and you get more convenience functionality than a basic program can give. Especially when you go "off book" from the programming. Nest saves you in those times when your program says "cool it down" and you're not actually home, etc. Sure, you can remember to set it everytime you leave/come home but Nest makes it so you don't have to.
