it's not about elections, necessarily, but about political capital.

I mean, Clinton did win re-election. But he wasn't nearly as effective as he could have been if he had managed his political capital better and/or kept his dick in his pants. So, was him getting only half-way on the issue so early in his presidency worth it?

Do I want to see the law repealed, and gay soldiers treated equally? Most definitely. Do I think it'll actually happen before the next election? 50-50. Do I want Obama to put his entire presidency at risk to take on this issue immediately? No.
