Not necessarily, the real problem is that there are fewer of these jobs.

I work with a lot of companies that have invested heavily in automation - the upshot is that now you have one guy who looks after 4 or 5 machines, rather than operating one.
Some sort of post-secondary is probably required these days, but not a college degree. And it's a lot less important than the training and on-the-job experience.
So before you might have had 4-5 people working a step or two above minimum wage, while now it is one person earning 2-3 x minimum wage. It's great so long as you're the one person.
