I got away with such things. Well, not exactly what is going on in Stranger Things, and I was a bit older (I was 15 in 1983), but I was able to basically run around wherever I wanted, do what I wanted, and as long as I checked in regularly enough, none of my teachers or either of my parents really questioned me.
