They will attach (our dogs were are a lab and a dachshund and they were inseparable). What would be the plan while you're out of town? Getting someone to take two dogs is a lot harder than one. Plus the costs of vet bills, food, etc..
Overall, it's probably a net positive for Ferb, and likely for you but only you know if you're ready for two :)
