Creative endeavors tend to attract a more liberal type, I think, as it demands a more expansive worldview in order to succeed. -- (edited)

Broadly speaking, of course.
I also think they tend to work closer to the edge of what is "known", culturally speaking, thus tend to alienate people who don't accept that the "known" can or should be challenged, or even added to, lest their beliefs be proven wrong.
