It...did.

Foxx left the set during the middle of principal photography and refused to go back. There was a homicide in the area where they were filming. He didn't think "gritty realism" was worth risking his life. So, they had to come up with a different version of Miami Vice on the fly. Mann was apparently livid about the situation and appalling to be around.

Universal got a new studio boss after filming ended, and that guy did a tremendous job of providing the right guidance to wind up with a quality cut of the film. It clearly wasn't for everyone, though. In fact, it has one of the oddest RT scores you'll ever see. It's only 47% fresh, but it's 71% among top critics. That *never* happens.
