So, 16 years after Mel Carnahan beat John Ashcroft for a Senate seat after dying in a plane crash both their kids are on the statewide ballot.

Not against each other but in different races, actually the races I didn't vote for either party in.
Ashcroft is against a newsanchor with no political experience (no thanks) and Carnahan is kind of useless and just trades on his family name to try and get elected (and usually fails).
