Dear Andrea & Chris:
The election was a terrible blow and the ensuing results and anticipations really bad! Who knows what will happen and what countries will be affected. What I want to say to each of you is that the entire planet's political systems which used to be socialist, democratic or even semi-democratic have taken a sudden turn in the past couple of years. Austria, Hungary, Brexit, USA and many others have become anti-immigrant, racist and fascist. Whites around the world are seeing that they will be in the minority soon and don't like the loss of power. They also don't like seeing minorities prospering and increasing in financial and voting power.
Canada will be next unless people like you discover what the secret to democratic values can become re-emergent and filtered down to the same kind of people who voted for Trump. My brother's family are Trump supporters! They are fanatic anti-Trudeau and anti-immigrant. My brother has been anti-immigrant for years and his sons have chosen that route as well. Not misogynist - but blame all their ills on immigrants. Rob Ford was the first overt fascist and look how many supporters he had. I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know but Canadians have a habit of looking to the States as their slightly less well-bred neighbors - cousins? - and letting their feeling of superiority for human values make them too comfortable.
Anyway -- just my ranting for today. But don't wait too long to get involved.
