Mel, from B2, in the speech yesterday, one of the things that O'Malley and Jeb both commented on was the fact that Obama had very short coattails.

That while his organization served him well, it did little for the party as a whole. They lost 650 seats in state legislatures over his tenure and there are now more republican governors and republican controlled legislatures than almost any time in history. But I really felt that the point they missed was the racial backlash effect which I still feel was massive. It was the silent reaction that we're discussing below that has now been given outward voice. I would hope he can help. At least galvanize the support that exists. I really do fear the democratic party pulling hard left in response to Trump and going too far. The middle is really fertile if it can be activated. It needs to stand up and take account. Maybe he can galvanize that.
