And even if supporters were straight-up law & order voters concerned about illegals taking their jobs, he's now planning to leave those illegals in?

So either he's going to do what he said he'd do, playing to irrational fears, or he's not going to do what he said he'd do, and he's betraying rational concerns.
Either situation makes him subject to criticism.
