Insuring older people is a very expensive proposition. This is one of those things where people think they aren't getting the benefit of entitlements

but they are. We all benefit by Medicare, because it keeps the most expensive population out of the insurance pool. Either they are on their own and most won't be able to afford it (leading to hospital's eating significant costs and passing them on to everyone) or they're put into the overall pool and raise everyone's insurance costs.
