the thing about the food in tokyo especially is, though....

there's obviously a wealth of options beyond sushi and ramen. tokyo has three times as many restaurants as new york city, and most of the japanese ones have the main thing they do well and generally don't serve anything else. i went to a famous tonkatsu place (it's a breaded pork cutlet) and pretty much that's all they had. but this means there are restaurants everywhere, and you just have to find something you like. if you just want grilled beef, find a yakinuku place. etc.

but that aside, if you *really* don't like japanese food like an insane person, it's not like you're out of options. if you look for it you can actually find really good italian food in tokyo. there's a pizza joint somewhere that's supposed to be amazing. there are burger joints all over--i had a burger at mosburger, the japanese fast food chaiin and it was fine. if you like egg salad sandwiches, go to lawson's convenience store--they have off the shelf sandwiches that are fantastic.

no one starves in tokyo, honest.
