voted for him further endorse the idea that there is no ideology. Any ideology that could be gleaned from his public statements is being cobbled together by people trying to make sense of Trump's nonsense. Trump just knows better than everyone else. People will do what he tells them to do. That is, at its root, Trump's only ideology. And that really is what the rural voters responded to. Not any particular policy (they would have no way of knowing what policy he supported). They wanted an outsider because they think corrupt Washington insiders don't care about them. They think he looks like a successful guy so maybe he can do something. That seems to be the extent of their analysis. And fits well with his analysis. But to try to put a consistent world viewpoint on it is only meaningful to the rest of us who are trying to figure out what the hell happened and what it will mean for the future.
