Where do you think the movie comes down on free will? It seems to hint that Louise knows about the pain in her future but chooses it anyway because she decides the joy her daughter brings her is worth it. On the other hand would she still go through with telling Ian when she did? Knowing his reaction and still telling him seems kind of cruel in a way. Also, could she take any actions to save her daughter? She could become active in or start a charity to help find a cure years before her daughter is born. Earth is about to began an unprecedented period of international cooperation and I assume that she is going to have a lot of pull with world leaders so she could lobby for research money pretty easily. Not that that would guarantee anything but I would think she could still take that path if she could.
How would one experience different futures anyway?
