I will confess to perhaps understanding a bit of David's madness

when I was younger, the only Italian food I was exposed to was variations of crap pasta in a crap marinara sauce
- often with a crap bland cheese (I don't count American pizza in this)

I was not a fan

having been exposed much more fully to the depth and richness of their cuisine, I've come 180 on it. Even so, it is still a second tier cuisine (fighting it out for fourth place or fifth place in my affections along with Chinese) as it is not one of my big three
