Yeah, it's the opposite of how diplomacy is supposed to work. But Trump wants to renegotiate US debt to China and Chinese access to US markets.

He doesn't care about some insignificant islands in the South China Sea, those are problems for countries like Vietnam and the Philippines to worry about.
