So I had mentioned earlier that the one item that broke during the move was the "cookies for Santa" plate that N and I painted last year. I know it

was an accident, but I was still pretty crushed. N had scribbled his name on the bottom of the plate so I could never get that back.

Today I called a few paint-your-own-pottery places in the area and found one place an hour away that had the same Santa plate for sale! When we walked into the place and saw the plate, I got a little teary-eyed.

We painted the new plate today, and N wrote "cookies for Santa" himself on the top of the plate, which makes it even better than last year's version. I'm so happy.

As an aside: we were 12 miles from Gatlinburg. A road that was normally packed was like a ghost town today. We passed a few emergency response vehicles from other states. The waiter at the Mexican restaurant we went to for lunch says his brother lost his newly opened restaurant. Insurance only covered fires of the kitchen variety, not from disasters like wildfires. Sad.
