I'm not sure all fake news is about money (some is to benefit from disinformation). But money angle = clicks

Set up web site. Enable ads on web site. Post links to your fake news on Twitter. Profit.

It's not horribly expensive to boost stuff on Facebook, and if your cram enough nonsense on your site you'll make money anyway. -- nm
