I figure you mean the exact plane, not the plane type, right? A week in advance, not that I know of -- (edited)

Depending on airline, I can almost always find the information within 24 hours, sometime even a couple of days in advance. Of course, delays, cancelations, etc could result in an aircraft swap, but usually (IME) it holds.
I just flightradar24 to look up the information. Replace the part of the URL that reads 'dl601' with the two letter code and flight number you are looking for. For example Air Canada flight 870 would be
https://www.flightradar24.com/data/flights/ac870
On the Delta 601 page, you can scroll down and see that N903DA is scheduled to operate the flight tonight. (The plane for tomorrow will probably post sometime this evening)
And if you click on N903DA, you can see the overall planned routing for the plane leading up to DL601
