The west end of the highway is quite majestic.

Not to take away from anyone else's stories. I'm sure they're all great.
Driving west from Corvallis and Philomath, you end up on a winding highway through the Coast Range. It's actually a quite perilous road, although a new stretch of highway is opening in 2017 which should take care of some of that.
Ultimately you end up in Toledo, and you start going uphill right past the Dairy Queen and just as you crest the mountain you see an ocean of blue (literally, an ocean of blue, as you're seeing the Pacific) and you dive down into Newport. The first time I saw it, I was stunned by the majesty of it.
