Something I've wondering about... would Trump voters have voted for Sanders if given the chance?

I get the anger on the left from those who say "You voted for a racist and a misogynist so you're a racist and a misogynist." But I feel a lot of the people who voted for Trump were just upset with their lot in life and felt Trump would be able to change that (regardless of the fact that they were being conned by Trump).
The article mentions that Clinton "failed to address the deep sense of grievance and anxiety tapped by Trump and Sanders."
So is this resentment that drove those voters to Trump the same resentment (or "grievance and anxiety") that may have driven them to Sanders, who could actually have done something for them?
In short: Is that the way Democrats win back the White House? By proposing programs that actually help this demographic? Not that Clinton wasn't proposing those packages, but Trump (and Sanders) seemed to communicate their views better.
