okay, how's this for some spoilerish speculation on how Rogue One plays out and leads into New Hope? ...

ok, the given -- someone steals death star plans, gets it to Leia and / or Bail Organa, who gets on the Tantive IV, and that leads to the opening moments of New HOpe.
what I will now speculate is this --
from the trailers, teasers, and everything else, we know that at some point in the movie there's going to be a major dogfight with x-wings and TIEs ... and something I saw suggests epic level fighting with star destroyers and more. and maybe the Tantive IV (or a ship looking a lot like it) is there.
so what if whoever has the DS plans, and they get to the Tantive IV in the midst of all of this fighting -- in the closing moments of the movie, mind you -- and the Tantive IV makes the hyperspace jump -- somewhere, anywhere, just get us clear of this fight! -- and they make a jump into the Tatooine system.
The only problem? Vader, on board a star destroyer, sees them break and make the jump, so he instructs the crew of said star destroyer to calculate their destination and make the jump ... boom! blurred stars as they make the jump. closing credits.
and suddenly, opening credits of New Hope ...
