Much of Syria's national income comes from oil sales and they subsidize food prices and healthcare so wiping out a population doesn't effect

their cash flow...I'm assuming syria was similar to Libia. the arab spring uprising was a reaction to the DRAMATIC rise in food costs associated with the near quadrupling of fertilizer costs (which shot up because of the Bush admin's decision to promote ethanol, millions of acres of corn being grown which required more acre feet of natural gas to be processed into nitrous ammonia...we were throwing 2 or 3x as much energy onto the production of ethanol than we were pumping into our tanks)
