Not great comparisons, but the release of the Zimmerman telegram in 1917 encouraged US entry into WW1, after three years of non-interventionism.

Similarly the British were lobbying FDR to fight German expansionism while Germany was lobbying for an isolationist policy, which impacted the 1940 elections.
