The gift hasn't gotten to you yet, or there are other extenuating circumstances, so I can let your stalkee know their gift will be late.

Also, it's been pointed out to me that Hanukkah starts on the 24th. This doesn't buy you 8 extra days. The date picked was approx. 7 weeks from the assignment date. That gives you plenty of time.
